Abstract:

A tray assembly includes an articulatable arm assembly coupled with a tray and selectively held in place by a locking mechanism (e. g. , a locking gas spring). A release mechanism coupled with the tray selectively activates and deactivates the gas shock mechanism and is coaxial with and free rotating with respect to an axis of rotation of the tray. The tray may rotate between a horizontal position and a stored position substantially orthogonal to the horizontal position. The arm assembly may include at least one frictional hinge comprising a tapered pin, a tapered bushing in rotational frictional contact with the tapered pin, and an adjustment mechanism coupled to the tapered pin to provide adjustable contact force between the tapered pin and the tapered bushing.

Abstract:

A refractive intraocular lens including an optic portion having an outer peripheral edge and two or more but preferably two, three or four balanced haptic elements. Each haptic element is of like form to achieve a “propeller-like” appearance. Each haptic element is also manufactured to have an inner portion and an outer tip for supporting the optic portion in a patient's eye. The inner portion of each haptic element is permanently connected to the outer peripheral edge of the optic portion. Each haptic element also includes a contact plate and a central portion located between the contact plate and the inner portion. Each haptic is formed to have greater resistance to bending in a plane generally parallel to an eye's optical axis than in a plane generally perpendicular to the eye's optical axis. The intraocular lens is so designed to exhibit less than approximately 1.0 mm axial displacement of the optic portion along the eye's optical axis under a compression force suitable to effect a 1.0 mm in diameter compression of the intraocular lens.

Abstract:

Passenger restraint system including a crash sensor for deploying an air bag associated with a vehicle during a crash event. The crash sensor includes a low frequency accelerometer circuit and a high frequency pressure transducer circuit. The low frequency accelerometer circuit senses low frequency signals from the deceleration of the vehicle as a result of the crash event, and the high frequency transducer circuit senses high frequency signals from the deformation of metal components as a result of the crash event. The combination of the high frequency signals and the low frequency signals provides an accurate indication for deployment of the air bag.

Abstract:

A system and method for provided a phacoemulsification surgery handpiece including a convertible sleeve for phacoemulsification surgery and irrigation/aspiration procedures. In a retracted state, the sleeve is in a desired relationship with the exposed portion of a phaco tip of the handpiece to support normal phacoemulsification surgery. In an extended state, the sleeve features a distally placed aspiration hole located forward from the distal end of a phaco tip to allow typical irrigation/aspiration procedures. A distal tip segment of the hand piece is overmolded by polyimide materials having a split feature to allow egress of a phaco tip.
