School District of Philadelphia Computer Fair Sponsored a group of students who went on to win first place in the Middle School Division of the School District of Philadelphia's computer fair. The group went on to the state competition where we were informed that although our project was well received, it did not specifically fit a category and therefore could not place. We used Flash to build a "catching" game that used the context of a coqui frog in the jungle to "catch" prime numbers falling from the top of the screen. "Tech Wings" Award http://qzabteachers.wikispaces.com/Tech_Wings The "Tech Wings" award is given for outstanding efforts integrating technology and School District of Philadelphia curriculum. Please feel free to visit my wikispace that contains over 200 games and interactives specific to Middle Years Math: mrbraunsmathpage.wikispaces.com. A Day Made Better Award Office Max I was one of a select few teachers statewide to benefit from the nearly $500 worth of school supplies generously provided by Office Max. My nomination came from the now retired Principal of Mayfair Elementary School, Roberta Besden in 2012 who said, "Mr. Matthew Braun not only prepares for his own classes, but assumes responsibility when middle year colleagues are absent. This year, at Mayfair, one of our teachers left to have a baby. We were given a substitute by the school district to continue instruction. Mr. Braun prepared lesson plans for himself as well as the substitute. He rearranged his schedule so that he could meet each day with the substitute to ensure a continuity of instruction for each child in our seventh and eighth grades. Mr. Braun is far more than a team player. He is the kind of teacher every administrator and parent prays to have on their staff." You Make the Difference Award Children's Crisis Treatment Center The “You Make The Difference” award is given for outstanding dedication. Our world has not benefited from treating children like a disease that needs to be cured. We would need to stop obsessing over everything going perfectly, trying to plan everything, and treating people like profit and loss centers, Matthew Braun, 39, Virginia.
