Abstract:

A fluorescent adapter having a housing including a tip contact compatible with an electrical socket, a threaded ring contact compatible with the electrical socket, the ring contact surrounding the housing and rotatable with the housing when the housing is rotated in a first direction and not rotatable with the housing when the housing is rotated in an opposite direction, and a fluorescent ballast supported by the housing and having input electrodes in electrical contact with the tip contact and the ring contact, respectively, and output electrodes for removably receiving the contact pins of a fluorescent lamp. The adapter is easily inserted into the socket but is not removable after insertion.

Disclosed are method and apparatus for registering multiple sensors collecting data from multiple objects. Sensor registration is decomposed into a two-step procedure. The first step corrects systematic errors. The second step assigns objects measured by one sensor to objects measured by a second sensor. Systematic errors are corrected by generating the global minimum of a systematic error function. One embodiment for generating the global minimum uses a Continuous Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure.

Abstract:

A fluorescent lamp includes a ballast releasably connected to an adapter in a bayonet style connection. The adapter includes a locking tab for preventing removal of the adapter from an electrical socket once the adapter has been installed in the electrical socket. The fluorescent lamp has a lamp tube. The lamp tube is preferably connected to a base in a manner to minimize the total height of the fluorescent lamp. The lamp base is preferably provided with a recess in which contact pins are connected to the lamp base. The lamp may be directly connected to the ballast. The lamp tube may be arranged in a coil having a greater radial outer extent than the base or than the ballast.

Abstract:

Disclosed are method and apparatus for generating a global minimum value of a function representing a characteristic of a system comprising at least one object, wherein the function is based at least in part on a set of data elements within a bounded domain. At an initial randomly chosen data element, the method comprises generating a local minimum by a sequence comprising multiple iterations of a construction phase followed by a local-improvement phase. A set of local minima are generated at a set of initial randomly chosen data elements. The global minimum is the minimum of the local minima within the bounded domain.

Abstract:

A coupling device for a urinal including a urine collection bag and a flexible tube connected to a user's catheter. A quick release coupling readily connects and disconnects the flexible tube to the urine collection bag to provide a fluid passageway upon connection. The coupling closes both the tube opening and the bag opening upon disconnection to prevent fluid from spilling out and to avoid contaminants from entering the flexible tube.
