A process comprises (a) combining (1) at least one metal cation source, (2) at least one phosphate anion source, (3) at least one organic base comprising at least one organic moiety comprising at least about five carbon atoms, and (4) at least one organosilane comprising at least one organic moiety comprising at least about six carbon atoms; and (b) allowing the metal cation source and the phosphate anion source to react in the presence of the organic base and the organosilane (for example, to form surface-modified metal phosphate nanoparticles).

Abstract:

Methods of making hydrophobic aerogels are described. Disclosed methods include forming a surface-modified metal oxide aerogel precursor from a sol comprising a solvent, a metal oxide precursor, and a hydrophobic surface modifying agent. The resulting modified precursor can be dried to from hydrophobic aerogels. Methods of forming the surface-modified metal oxide aerogel precursor include hydrolyzing the metal oxide precursor and co-condensing the hydrolyzed metal oxide precursor and the hydrophobic surface modifying agent. Hydrophobic aerogels and hydrophobic aerogel articles are also disclosed.

A multicompartment cup may include an upper compartment with a conical cross-section and a lower compartment with a rectangular cross-section. The upper compartment may include a main food product such as cereal, oatmeal, grits, any milled grain product, yogurt, etc. and the lower compartment may include toppings and other enhancements for the main food product. The two compartments may be separated by a divider and a seal may cover the top of the upper compartment.
