Abstract:
Plastic microfluidic structures having a substantially rigid diaphragm that actuates between a relaxed state wherein the diaphragm sits against the surface of a substrate and an actuated state wherein the diaphragm is moved away from the substrate. As will be seen from the following description, the microfluidic structures formed with this diaphragm provide easy to manufacture and robust systems, as well readily made components such as valves and pumps.

Abstract:
Methods and systems for detecting a target nucleic acid using the quantitative capabilities of real-time nucleic acid amplification systems and the multiplexing capabilities of hybridization systems, comprising: identifying a conservative sequence and a distinctive sequence within each target nucleic acid sequence; simultaneously amplifying the conservative region and the distinctive region; monitoring the amplification of the conservative region in real-time; identifying the distinctive region amplicon via multiplexed identification; and performing quantitative multiplexing analysis of the target by combining the real-time monitoring information with the multiplexed identification of the target nucleic acid.
A method is provided for purifying nucleic acid from a sample in a microfluidic device. The method can be used to purify nucleic acids from any source known in the art that comprises nucleic acids, such as prokaryotic or eukaryotic organisms, viruses, cell, tissues, organs, etc. In a specific example, the tissue is whole blood. The method for purifying nucleic acid may run fully automated in the microfluidic device.

Abstract:
A cooking device, comprises a base; a fulcrum mounted on the base; a support for carrying a pan, the support being mounted on the fulcrum and including first and second portions extending respectively from each side of the fulcrum a substantial distance; device for mounting the pan on the first portion; and an actuator operably associated with the second portion for periodically accelerating and decelerating rapidly the first portion about the fulcrum between first and second positions, thereby causing the pan to move upwardly and downwardly with the first portion and propel food placed therein into the air upon rapid upward deceleration and downward acceleration of the first portion and causing the food to be turned for uniform heating of different portions of the food.
A very simple and economic method and closure for quickly repairing a puncture in a vehicle tire utilizes a screw having a concave slot beneath its head. A sealing material such as an adhesive rubber is placed in the slot and is used to seal the hole when the sealing screw is threaded into the hole. The design provides easy, quick, efficient and very low cost repair for a puncture in a tire, not only for temporary repair but for long term repairs. The design is simple and includes only two parts: a screw having a spiral convex, or thread which affixes the screw in the tire and which further includes a concave slot under the screw head, and a sealing material such as adhesive or sticky rubber which is secured in the slot. The screw body is fixed in the tire hole and the head presses the sealing material onto the hole.

Abstract:
In implementations of object boundary generation, a computing device implements a boundary system to receive a mask defining a contour of an object depicted in a digital image, the mask having a lower resolution than the digital image. The boundary system maps a curve to the contour of the object and extracts strips of pixels from the digital image which are normal to points of the curve. A sample of the digital image is generated using the extracted strips of pixels which is input to a machine learning model. The machine learning model outputs a representation of a boundary of the object by processing the sample of the digital image.

Does the novel coronavirus have any links to a high-security lab in Wuhan?
Zhengli sent a note over WeChat to reassure her friends that there was no link, saying "I swear with my life, [the virus] has nothing to do with the lab," the South China Morning Post reported Feb. 6. Zhengli and another colleague, Peng Zhou, did not reply to a Live Science email requesting comment.
