Abstract:
A quick change, self-contained vacuum system includes a debris container with an input opening and a pressure head that is configured to receive a fluid under a high pressure and which includes a low pressure inlet and an exhaust port. A guide pin may be provided along with a body that is selectively engageable with the pressure head and the guide pin. The body includes a bore having a first port communicating with the exhaust port of the pressure head and a second port communicating with the input opening of the debris container. The vacuum system further includes a shutoff valve that is operable in response to movement of the guide pin. In operation, movement of the guide pin relative to the body in one direction establishes locking engagement of the pressure head and the body along with a response by the shutoff valve to establish fluid communication between the exhaust port of the pressure head and the input opening of the debris container. Movement of the guide pin relative to the body in another direction provides for separation of the pressure head and the body and response by the shutoff valve to prevent fluid communication between the first port of the bore and the input opening of the debris container.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A protein fragment complementation assay for thermophiles is provided wherein a thermophilic bacteria having a temperature-sensitive adenylate kinase is transformed with one or more vectors having sequences encoding a first test peptide operatively fused to a first portion of a thermostable adenylate and a second test peptide operatively fused to a second portion of the thermostable adenylate kinase. Association of the first and second test peptides allows association of the first and second portions of the thermostable adenylate kinase and growth of the thermophilic bacteria at a temperature greater than 70 C.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A tool for removal of round internally threaded collars from high efficiency aerospace fasteners. The tool includes a central cylindrical pin having a head at one end held against rotation, a non-round extension at the second end and a transverse bore intermediate the ends, containing a ball which is spring biased to project slightly beyond the pin wall. A mandrel assembly surrounds the pin and is rotatable relative thereto. A gripping collet is positioned between the mandrel and pin with collet fingers at one end extending beyond the mandrel and a threaded second end threaded into said mandrel. An axial slot in said collet is adapted to receive said ball when aligned therewith to form a releasable latch mechanism. In operation, the open collet fingers are placed over a threaded collar with said extension in engagement with a corresponding recess in the end of the bolt within the collar. The socket and mandrel are rotated in the collar unthreading direction.

Abstract:
A metal skin trimming device which cuts an edge of a first metal skin to a net shape that is complementary to the edge of a second metal skin that has been previously attached to a frame, such as the airframe of an aircraft fuselage. A guide carried by the device is adjustable to set the gap that will appear between the edges of the first and second metal skins when they are attached as by riveting to the airframe.
