Abstract:

A stationary exercise bicycle apparatus is provided, the apparatus including shock absorption capabilities in order to more completely simulate the movement and feel of an actual free standing bicycle. Shock absorption capabilities are provided by a rearwardly extending member having a first end which is pivotally secured to the base portion of the apparatus and a second end which includes a surface contacting roller. Further, a resilient elastomeric component is provided which is disposed between brackets mounted on the rearwardly extending member and the base portion, respectively, this component being slightly compressed in response to the operators weight and movements initiated by the operator. Such compression serves as a dampening or absorption of shock waves. Also, it will be recognized that the configuration described allows for some limited up and down movement of the apparatus.

Abstract:

An exercise console is disclosed as including a housing and a display incorporated into the housing. The display is adapted to align substantially parallel to the top surface of the housing. A tilt mechanism connects the display to the housing and is operable by a user to tilt the display to a nonparallel angle with respect to the housing. In another aspect in accordance with the invention, the exercise console includes a substantially fixed array of buttons incorporated into the housing. The buttons provide to a user various input options which are selectable in a pre-determined sequence by operation of the buttons to program the exercise console. Various indicators are associated with the buttons and inform the user which input options are next available for selection after the user has selected one or more input options.

Abstract:

A stationary and indoor exercise apparatus that supports a traditional bicycle and is associated with electronic signaling devices providing a means to deliver electronic signals to a controlling device that then forwards the electronic signals on to either an electronic gaming device, a personal computer, or a virtual reality system. In this manner, the operator of the bicycle is able to interact with video game or virtual reality interactive software while in the process of exercising. The invention's front and rear suspension systems support the operator and the bicycle and give a full range of motion simulation experience by allowing the bicycle and operator to experience up and down motion that mimics that ride of the open road along with a forward and back motion that gives the operator the experience of moving forward as the bicycle is pedaled. Additionally, the rear suspension is equipped with a rocker feature that allows the bicycle and operator to experience a biased springed resistance as they tilt and turn the bike during the course of a workout, thereby providing an experience that mimics the turning and tilting forces felt during a bicycle ride outdoors. Additionally, the operator feels an adjustable resistance as the bicycle pedals are operated providing a training experience for the operator.

Abstract:

An apparatus and method provide various desk structures as workstations to receive a user, standing or sitting, walking or stationary, exercising or sedentary. A double duty desk system may include multiple, dedicated “sitting desks” at seated height and fixed to a shared “standing desk,” the height of whose desktop stands accessible to a user exercising on an exercise bike, treadmill, stepper, or the like. A user in an exercise (e.g., standing) position may view materials set on the standing desk and on the attached sitting desks and returns.
