    A fluid flow control device having at least one bypass valve that is actuated in response to the movement of an annular body housed in the device. The annular body may be housed in a cylindrical housing and be a buoyant or non-buoyant body, such as a non-buoyant annular ring. The movement of the annular body in the cylindrical housing actuates the one or more bypass valves. Flow through the bypass valves returns the fluid to its source, for example, to an aquifer while maintaining a desired liquid level. The fluid flow control device can provide an effective means for regulating the elevation of subsurface fluids, for example, ground water, to enhance the efficiency of gas extraction from subsurface strata, for example, the extraction of methane from water and methane containing coal beds. Systems and methods of extracting gases from subsurface strata are also provided.

    A wellhead sealing apparatus and a method of preventing leakage from a wellhead while providing electrical conductors to the well are provided. The apparatus includes a housing that can be mounted to a wellhead and one or more electrical conductors which pass through the housing and are sealed to prevent leakage of fluids, for example, natural gas or methane, from the well head. One aspect of the invention includes a coupling assembly having a male or a female connector mounted in the housing and which is sealed with a hardenable fluid, for example, an adhesive, to minimize or prevent leakage from the housing. Aspects of the invention can be used to seal the electrical connections to wellheads containing harmful gases, such as methane or natural, gas, to minimize or prevent leakage of the gas.

  • Abstract:
    A guard device for use with a drop pipe in a well casing includes a pair of similar guard sections each being formed of a plastic material. Each section includes inner and outer arcuate members interconnected by ribs and plates. The inner arcuate member of each section engages the drop pipe and the outer arcuate member has tabs which engage the well casing to enter the drop pipe. A locking member on each section interlocks with a lock engaging member on the other section. Vertical passages through the sections accommodate electrical conductors, safety ropes and similar components to thereby minimize damage to these components.
