Abstract:
Information processing equipment and power/cooling facilities are managed together for power savings without degrading system processing performance. An operations management apparatus is connected to an equipment group to and facilities to and to. The operations management apparatus includes: a database which stores a history of positions and operation information of the equipment group of to and facilities to and to , and workloads to of the equipment group of to. An index value of workloads from the history is calculated and the workloads to are allocated to the equipments to. In addition, the operations management apparatus allocates the workloads to.

Abstract:
This invention manages a power consumption of a system including a computer and a storage in combination with a workload of a business application. More specifically, a power consumption per transaction processing count is employed as an index that an application user utilizes as a guide for adjusting a power consumption amount. Further, the invention provides means that adjusts a power consumption per workload based on a trade off between power consumption and system performance. When adjusting the power consumption, the system configuration is modified so as to increase or decrease computer resources such as a disk or a server that the application utilizes.

Abstract:
In deduplicating data including objects, the system obtains information of the location of the objects and uses the information in calculating the hash value. The hash value calculation program divides data from the boundary location to chunks to match the boundary location of the objects subject to deduplication and the hash value is calculated from each chunk.

Abstract:
Exemplary embodiments provide a technique to manage object based tier to improve allocation of media to unallocated area. In one embodiment, a method of allocating an area of a logical volume to an unallocated area of a virtual volume for a write command comprises: calculating an object location of an object based on the write command and an object allocation information, the write command containing a virtual volume name and a virtual volume address of a virtual volume; selecting a tier from a plurality of tiers based on the calculated object location and an object and tier definition information; selecting a media type from a plurality of media types based on the selected tier and a tier and media definition information; and selecting a logical volume from a plurality of logical volumes based on the virtual volume specified by the write command, the object allocation information, a pool information, and the selected media type.
Method And Apparatus To Allocate Area To Virtual Volume Based On Object Access Type
In accordance with an aspect of the invention, a storage system includes a processor; a memory; a disk control module configured to receive a write command for writing to an unallocated area and to identify an object of the write command to be written as a written object; and an object allocation acquisition module configured to obtain object allocation information specifying one or more virtual volume locations for storing the written object. The disk control module allocates, to each of the one or more virtual volume locations, an area selected from a plurality of logical volumes if the written object is predefined as a randomly accessed object. The disk control module allocates to the one or more virtual volume locations a consecutive area of one logical volume if the written object is predefined as a sequentially accessed object.

Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide object-based tier management to improve the allocation of objects to different media of different speeds based on access characteristics such as access frequency. One embodiment is directed to a method of managing object-based data in an information system which includes an application server and a storage system. The method comprises receiving a write command including a first data to be written into a virtual volume; identifying an object to which the first data corresponds; checking if a second data corresponding to the object has been stored in the virtual volume; if the second data has been stored in a page of the virtual volume, checking if the page which stores the second data has a vacancy area; and if the page has a vacancy area, writing the first data in the page which stores the second data.
A method of tier management of data comprises performing a tier migration log information setup process which includes selecting an area specified by a virtual volume address and a logical volume address; determining a destination tier for the area based on a number of accesses to the area; and updating a tier migration log information by inputting the determined destination tier and a time; and performing a process using the tier migration log information to determine whether to migrate a specific area which includes loading a tier migration log from the tier migration log information by selecting a specific time; checking if a current tier of the specific area equals a destination tier specified by the tier migration log; and if the current tier is not equal to the destination tier, migrating the specific area to the destination tier.
Method And Apparatus To Allocate Area To Virtual Volume
A storage system comprises a plurality of hard disk drives and a storage controller providing a plurality of virtual volumes to a server and including a processor and a memory. The storage controller allocates pages of the plurality of virtual volumes to the plurality of hard disk drives in response to write requests. The storage controller controls to allocate outer sections of the plurality of hard disks to first addresses of the virtual volume and allocates inner sections of the plurality of hard disk drives to second addresses of the virtual volume, wherein the first addresses are lower than the second addresses.
As Monday's yen gains are "purely" a position adjustment from the past week's overdone selling, the Japanese currency should resume falling in the very near term on speculation over the global interest rate outlook, said Shinichi Hayashi, a senior dealer at Shinkin Central Bank.
