The invention discloses methods, compositions and kits for stabilizing a solubilized phenyl phosphate, preferably paranitrophenyl phosphate (PNPP), using charcoal. Also disclosed are methods, compositions and kits for recycling solubilized phenyl phosphate, preferably PNPP, that has an absorbance of less than 0. 1 when measured at 405 nm due to non-enzymatic hydrolysis.

Abstract:
The invention relates to stannous halide stabilized and/or enhanced alkaline solutions to be used in combination with colorimetric, luminescent and fluorescent assays. The buffered solutions stabilize hydrogen peroxide at a pH greater than 7. 0 and preferably greater than 9. By stabilizing and/or enhancing hydrogen peroxide in the buffer system, the compositions used in such assays may have a higher shelf-life and provide enhanced detection of the subject analyte.

Abstract:
This invention relates to an improved method for detecting and quantifying the presence of a target molecule, such as an antigen, an antibody or a polynucleotide, in a sample which method uses alkaline phosphatase as the reporter enzyme and the reduction of a tetrazolium salt to a formazan as part of the detection/signaling system.
