Abstract:
Techniques are described for battery management in a computing device. The described techniques may be implemented by a battery offline module that provides functionality to control utilization of a battery such as determining whether the battery is available to receive power from a power source. For instance, the battery offline module may receive an input requesting that a battery be taken offline, determine whether system conditions for taking the battery offline are met, and take the battery offline when the system conditions are met such that the battery is not capable of receiving power from a power source of the computing device. In some instances, the battery offline module may cause different powering and charging arrangements between multiple batteries of the computing device. By implementing the battery offline module in the computing device, battery utilization is controlled to improve battery life.
Autosave And Manual Save Modes For Software Applications
Autosave and manual save modes in an application user interface on a computing device are provided. The computing device may be utilized to display a menu for receiving a selection of a menu option from the application user interface. The application user interface may display an electronic document to be saved. The menu option may include an option for switching between an autosave mode and a manual save mode for saving the electronic document. A selection of the menu option may then be received by the computing device. The computing device may then be utilized to activate one or more unique features associated with either the autosave mode or the manual save mode, based on the selected menu option, from the application user interface.

Abstract:
Techniques for monitoring surface temperature of devices are described. Generally, surface temperature of devices is monitored and controlled to prevent user discomfort and/or injury that may result from user contact with an excessively heated surface. In at least some embodiments, temperature of an external surface of the device is indirectly monitored. For instance, a temperature sensor is positioned at an internal location in a device that has a known temperature relationship to a temperature of an external surface of the device. Alternatively or additionally, a temperature of an external surface of a device may be directly detected. In at least some embodiments, when a temperature of an external surface of a device is determined to reach or exceed a threshold temperature, procedures can be implemented to reduce the temperature of the external surface and/or prevent further heating of the external surface.

Abstract:
A collaboration icon system displays collaboration icons representing a current collaboration state of a resource. The collaboration icon system determines the collaboration state of the resource. When the collaboration state indicates that the resource does not have multiple editors, the collaboration icon system displays a share icon that is selectable to support sharing the resource. When the collaboration state indicates that the resource has multiple editors, the collaboration icon system displays an editors icon to support sharing the resource and accessing information relating to the editors. The share icon and the editors icon provide an indication of the collaboration state while the resource is being accessed.
