Abstract:

Methods and apparatus for discriminating matter in a chamber having an inlet port and an outlet port utilizing dielectrophoresis and field flow fractionation. A carrier medium is introduced into the inlet port and is directed from the inlet port to the outlet port according to a velocity profile. A programmed voltage signal is applied to an electrode element coupled to the chamber to form a dielectrophoretic force on the matter. The dielectrophoretic force is balanced with a gravitational force to displace the matter to positions within said velocity profile in the carrier medium to discriminate the matter. A chamber having a top and bottom outlet port may be utilized to withdraw a first portion of a carrier medium from the top outlet port at a first, controllable fluid flow rate and to withdraw a second portion of the carrier medium from the bottom outlet port at a second, controllable fluid flow rate.

Abstract:

A system for remote inspection of items including at least one inspection machine constructed to examine an item under inspection to obtain information about the item, a database coupled to the at least one inspection machine that receives and stores the information about the item in an item file, the item including a unique item identifier, and an item file inspection device that receives the item file, analyzes data contained in the item file and records screening information based on an analysis of the item file. The system also includes a server that controls transfer of the item file and the screening information between the database and the item file inspection device. The screening information is linked with the item file using the unique item identifier. The item file inspection device is located remote from the at least one inspection machine.

A computer readable medium encoded with a plurality of instructions for execution on at least one processor, the plurality of instructions performing a method of remote screening of items of baggage. The method includes steps of storing information about an item under inspection, linking a unique item identifier with the information to uniquely associate the information with the item under inspection and retrieving the information about the item under inspection in response to a request. The method also includes analyzing the information to determine a screening result for the item under inspection, and storing the screening result with the information about the item.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus for performing encryption for data at rest at a port of a network device such as a switch are disclosed. Specifically, when data is received from a host during a write to a storage medium such as a disk, the data is encrypted by the port prior to transmitting the encrypted data to the storage medium. Similarly, when a host attempts to read data from the storage medium, the port of the network device receives the encrypted data from the storage medium, decrypts the data, and transmits the decrypted data to the host. In this manner, encryption and decryption of data at rest are supported by the port of the network device.
