High Stability Optical Encapsulation And Packaging For Light-Emitting Diodes In The Green, Blue, And Near Uv Range
Julian A. Carey - Sunnyvale CA Jason L. Posselt - San Jose CA
Assignee:
Lumileds Lighting, U.S., LLC - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H01L 3300
US Classification:
257 98
Abstract:
An LED component is provided, with light emission in the green-to-near UV wavelength range. The light-emitting semiconductor die is encapsulated with one or more silicone compounds, including a hard outer shell, an interior gel or resilient layer, or both. The silicone material is stable over temperature and humidity ranges, and over exposure to ambient UV radiation. As a consequence, the LED component has an advantageously long lifetime, in which it is free of âyellowingâ attenuation which would reduce the green-to-near UV light output.
Light Emitting Devices With Enhanced Luminous Efficiency
Daniel A. Steigerwald - Cupertino CA, US William D. Collins III - San Jose CA, US Robert M. Fletcher - San Jose CA, US Michael J. Ludowise - San Jose CA, US Jason L. Posselt - San Jose CA, US
A structure includes semiconductor light emitting device and a wavelength converting layer. The wavelength converting layer converts a portion of the light emitted from the semiconductor light emitting device. The dominant wavelength of the combined light from the semiconductor light emitting device and the wavelength converting layer is essentially the same as the wavelength of light emitted from the device. The wavelength converting layer may emit light having a spectral luminous efficacy greater than the spectral luminous efficacy of the light emitted from the device. Thus, the structure has a higher luminous efficiency than a device without a wavelength converting layer.
Light Emitting Diode Source With Protective Barrier
An apparatus having a substrate, an LED light source attached to the substrate, an electrical connector attached to the substrate and electrically connected to the LED light source, a potting material on the substrate and covering at least a portion of the electrical connector; and a barrier separating the potting material from the LED light source, the barrier having a height that exceeds the thickness of the potting material on the substrate.
The instant invention discloses a device and method to mix and match LED die at a LED emitter or array level in an array to obtain a consistent average weighted wavelength, and/or desired flux, reducing the spread of a color range and therefore reducing the observed LED color range. The mixing of different wavelength and flux LED's expands the color gamut of the LEDs available to be used in a particular luminaire with a given color specification.

International Classification:
F21S 4/00 H01J 9/24 F21V 15/00
US Classification:
36224902, 445 23, 362373
Abstract:
A light source and method for making the same are disclosed. The light source includes a housing, a drive assembly, and an LED. The housing has an interior compartment enclosed in an outer surface having a heat dissipating surface and first and second power terminals that are accessible from outside the interior compartment. The drive assembly is located in the interior compartment and electrically connected to the first and second power terminal. The LED is directly attached to the heat dissipating surface and electrically insulated therefrom, the LED having first and second LED power contacts. The housing has first and second housing power terminals disposed outside the housing, electrically isolated from the heat-dissipating surface, and connected to the drive assembly. A first conductor connects the first LED power contact to the first housing power terminal. A second conductor connects the LED second power contact to the second housing power terminal.
Substrate Based Light Source Package With Electrical Leads
A light source and method for making the same are disclosed. The light source includes a base member and a lead structure. The lead structure is attached to the base member such that the lead structure extends beyond the base member and has an opening for accessing a surface of the base member. A die containing a light emitting semiconductor device is bonded to the surface of the base member. The die is electrically connected to the lead structure and overlaid with a transparent material. An electrically insulating layer is bonded between the lead structure and the base member, the electrically insulating layer having an opening for accessing the surface of the base member. The electrically insulating layer can be an adhesive for bonding the lead structure to the base member.
Light Source Having Light Emitting Cells Arranged To Produce A Spherical Emission Pattern
A light source includes a mount having first and second opposite surfaces, a first light emitting element having one or more solid state light emitting cells arranged to emit light from the first surface of the mount, and a second light emitting element having one or more solid state light emitting cells arranged to emit light from the second surface of the mount. The first and second light emitting elements are arranged such that the light emitted from the light source produces a substantially spherical emission pattern.
Light Source With Optics To Produce A Spherical Emission Pattern
